Ironic, yes. Aporcryphal? Maybe. But wouldn't the issue in
such a case be where the rat-poison ingredients end up
after they've killed the rat -- generally in the water
table/supply sooner or later?

But why dye rat food or poison at all? Pest rats are all
that picky as foragers go, are they?
