I remember from a design project many years ago that an electronic ballast on a 4' tubelight rated 40W consumes only 26W.

The power consumption increases as the tube ages. Light output decreases. I wish the manufacturers would incorporate an indicator on the tube that will tell us end of life is approaching.


In 1989 I posted to usenet:

Uh-oh... Somebody tell me I was wrong. Nobody did back then.
