Plants roots do a great job of moving things in and out of
the substrate. I can tell you from my own few examples that
a half dozen years of very heavy fish load doesn't have to
turn the substrate foul at the depths you're talking about
-- but then, I tend to plant plants that grow extensive
root systems in the back where the substrate is deepest.
