Re: [APD] Protein Skimmer

Hello Leif,
I use a quite large protein skimmer on my plant production ponds. Mostly
it sits there and does nothing but when it starts to foam I get an
indication that there is a build up of organics in the water and then I
start to remove the sediments while conducting a big water change.

Skimmers do foam on freshwater but are not as effective as when they are
operating in sea water. I can send you some photos of it foaming if you
like. I don't think it actually cleans or polishes the water much but it
is used as an indicator that it is time for a water change. The system is
63,000 litres and water changes cost money.

If anyone wants photos I can send them.

Cheers
Dave
