RE: [APD] Amano's AGA demo

Oh, and one more thing...

Amano also talked about ONLY dosing CO2 during his BLAST period...

Ultimately, my understanding is that this method also prevents much algae
from growing. Perhaps Tom Barr can explain it to us technically, but it
sounds like algae is more likely to lose the battle of nutrient absorption
to the plants.

When Amano was asked how he kept his MASSIVE aquarium in his "basement" from
getting overrun with algae, he commented that his many years or so of
experience have helped him figure out how to prevent algae from growing. He
talked very specifically about how he'd set up the metal halide "blast" for
2-3 hours per day for that aquarium, as well.

Perhaps I can start a new term. For further discussion, let's call the
3-hours per day approach to providing very high light the "Amano Blast."

highlighting (MHs) for about 3 hours per day and the lesser
amount of light from the PCs for a full daylength.<<

Some people on Reef Central have been using the same method
successfully for growing photosynthetic corals, while other
reefers are still running MH lamps and actinic PC/VHO for 8
to 10 hours. The growth rates do not seem to be all that
different.
