Anything's possible.  The one time I did have a student dump a load of 
food into the tank, the tank turned cloudy white with lots of uneaten 
food all over the bottom.  We also hide the food from prying little 
hands.  I'm just pleased to see the tank go from pea soup green to 
crystal clear.  It's a reminder of how dynamic these aquatic systems 
are.
