[APD] Dennerle Light Cycle?

Has anyone ever tried Dennerle's recommended light cycle?  They call it a
"mid-day pause".

They recommend 4 to 5 hours of light, lights off for 2 to 4 hours and then 4
to 7 hours of light again.  During the "pause" one should still have some
light in the room (window or lamp).  Light on times must be at least 4 hours
long each time.

Dennerle's reasoning is that as it has no negative effect on plants or fish
but does have a negative impact on algae, it is good.

Before I try this, wanted some opinions or experiences with this...
