Sometimes I get a stem that starts to grow funny after being pruned a few
times, then I just throw it away. I haven't paid enough attention to know how
long various plants last. Either way, I still don't see any reason to throw
one away if it can still grow back nicely, as long as I can keep it out of
sight while it is recovering. I do however agree that you shouldn't just take
a pair of scissors across the top of all your plants.
