[APD] Malate

Does anyone know anything about how malate helps protect aquatic plants from
ethanol?

Ethanol is a fermentation by-product of organic decay in the substrate. It's
fairly persistent but  can be oxidized to acetic acid which also is more
persistent. It's just like a bottle of wine going sour if the cork leaks or
if you leave the top off for a few days.

I've asked this in the Crypts forum but got no useful information yet.
