[APD] miraculous nitrate disappearance

Hello,
this morning I decided to test some of the waterparameters in my aquarium.
NO3 = 20 ppm
PO4 = less then 0.5 ppm

I decided to add some extra KH2PO4 to raise the PO4 levels.  
In the evening my NO3  has dropped to about 0 and the PO4 is 1 ppm.
Is this possible, such a large uptake of NO3 in only one day.
