A mass of cat fur can be a good foundation for riccia and similar plants. If your cat is a shorthair it might be hard to get enough fur, but hair balls can be a good alternative.

First, the hair part must be removed from the ball part lest the other DOC get out of whack. One way to do that is to feed the ball to a pirahna or to one of those catfish. They will do the separating and all you have to do is to collect the hair.

I've found that Filter Inlet Strainers make GREAT cat hairball catchers - no need for catfish or pirahna to interviene. Just take one warm lightstrip, add one fat cat, subtract the glass top for the tank and voila - perfect hairball central.

Happy Holidays everyone!
