Hi sherry:
This is Tom Barr method (I'm copying this  from a previous posting by Tom)

Weekly 50% water change.
Watch the pH close, knock it down to 6.7 or so as a traget pH.

Add 1/4 teaspoon of KNO3 3x a week(once after a water change then 2 more
times)
Add 1/4 or slightly more of K2SO4 after water change only.
A couple of rice grains worth of KH2PO4 3 x a week
7 mls of traces 3x a week

Repeat,

Test: pH for CO2 level.

That's it, keep on this, and you will have good plant health.
