Yes, I agree.  Tannins in our tanks are really just a matter of aesthetics.
I have a 29 gallon with quite a bit of wood.  I prefer the slight "dark
water" look.  I think it makes it look a bit more natural to the Southeast
Asian biotype I'm trying to imitate.  Of course, I also have a 6700K and
4700K bulb in there to magnify the effect.  The lower color temperature
helps to make it look more "dark water" and, to me, more pleasing.  The
extra red in the lower K bulb also REALLY shows off the Rasbora hets!  I
might be a little weird too, because I really enjoy algae.  I think algae on
rocks, wood and the backs and sides of my aquarium is simply beautiful.
Yeah, maybe I'm weird!

I put a chunk of driftwood from the West Coast in a 25 g tank and it took a
couple of months to clear up. Didn't both me, it won't hurt your fish and my
Cardinal Tetra's looked great in that water. If you don't like it use some
carbon in your filter to clear it up.
