I had the same problem. They develop a really strong root system. I use an
old serrated kitchen knife and cut the roots off by sawing in a circular
pattern of about 6"-8" radius around the plant all the way down to the
bottom glass. This forces the plant into developing new roots rather than
vegetative production and slows the growth temporarily.
