Don't forget to consider aquascaping when determining how much Flourite to 
buy.  A 2" bed is ok, but a flat substrate has all the aesthetic charm of a 
crop field.  Adding more will give you not only an overall deeper bed for 
the plants, but also some to work with to create slopes, dips, bumps, 
etc.  As a general rule, I add 1.25 to 1.5 bags for each square foot of area.
