Dave, what you have is Water Sprite, sometimes also called Indian Fern. From
the photo, I'd say that the species you have Ceratopteris thalictroides. It
is easy to grow, and will do so floating just underneath the water surface,
or rooted in the gravel. It reproduces most easily by forming small baby
plants along the leaf margins. It is an aquatic fern, very popular with
guppy breeders because the finely divided leaves offer protection for the
fry from a hungry mother.
