Aquascaping in front of power filters

Sorry about the re-post, this became lost in the recent spam attack.

I was wondering what plants are good for aquascaping near the
inlet/outlet of a power filter.  I currently have a Whisper 2 on a 15gal
and the plants near the filter (a. crispus/e. densa) always fold over or
get stuck to the intake tube.  I'm looking for something that will grow
nice and dense to hide the equipment yet has a woody enough stem not to
be pushed around by this current.  Or is there something I can do to the
filter or tank to keep this from happening?
