Re: Are you kidding?
Alan,
I think Robert probably does find Mr. Novak's actions both threatening and
insulting, given that he is a named defendant in the suit. I think that also
puts him pretty strongly in the "us" category. Perhaps even more one of "us"
than most of us, since to him this is an issue both of free speech and
potential financial damage. I believe this gives him a right to take this
all as seriously as wants.
Once again, I think Brian Harmon got it right when he said in a reply at the
end of the same digest your message was in, "This what i've been saying for
months. Novak comes here and trolls for angry flames, which he then lifts
out of context to present to the judge. If the judge sees 50 messages from
list members detailing how we'll ruin him, the judge may find it
compelling."
I did notice in Mr. Novak's complaint evidence that what Brian said about
Mr. Novak "trolling for angry flames and lifting them out" is true. I join
with Brian in suggesting that the best thing we can do for the defendants
(after donating to the defense fund) is to avoid any personal comments about
the plaintiff.
I learned early in my life that you don't joke with the people at border
crossings or security guards at airports; and unless your sense of humor and
language is as polished as Ben Franklin's, I would suggest that applies to
lawsuits as well.
