I have a 40 and just put 2x96 watt power compacts on it and it is pretty
fantastic.
I am turning one light off for the first month to get the tank used to
the new light, 
but will turn them both on after that.  This was quite an upgrade from
4x30 watts
regular fluorescents and I love the difference.  I would purchase a
fixture with 2x
96 and then retain the option of using one or two bulbs; they are
usually on separate
switches.  I got JBJs; nice fixture!
