Oh, I forgot -- the tink sound you mentioned is the starter switch
going on/off -- they can be noisy little buggers but normally they only
cycle once or a few times (until the bulb stays lit) when you turn on a
lamp so it's not a big deal.
If you keep jiggling the plug, you keep turning the lamp on/off and
making the starter switch go on/off.
BTW, if jiggling the plug causes on/off cycling, it coudl be a bad
connectin in the socket. Try runing a cord to another, less worn wall
