Re: Aquatic Plants Digest V4 #1444

>>There is a flaw here in this free-wheeling-devil-may-care-anything-goes
attitude with regards to negative discussions of companies on the list that
is bound to come back to haunt us all in the future. Regardless how the
current case unfurls, the managers need to address it now before other much
more sympathetic companies decide to enforce their rights against slander
and go after other list members as individuals or the list managers
themselves. <<

The flaw in your logic is your exaggeration. No single comment can ruin a
company. dis satisfied customers is a fact of life in any business to an
extent. It is shear volume that indicates a problem. A comment here and
there is easy for any company to overcome. For every bad comment there may
be 3 good ones. The current case is unique to this forum not the norm. Any
intelligent person should be able to figure out why. What the internet
really needs is an online version of the better business bureau specifically
for online companies. Where complaints are on public record for anyone to
see on the internet. Just like the local BBB. BBB complaints remain on
public record no matter if they are true or not. Problem is nobody bothers
to check it. How many people have EVER checked on a company at the BBB
before they buy something from them? Now if the same information was made
easily available on the internet for all to see, for all to link to, for all
to direct people to, many companies would have a heart attack. The BBB does
not carry the burden of proof to the validity of the complaint before it is
on public record. The public has the right to read all the complaints on
record. If this was on the internet, with easy access and a BBB rating on
every WEB site, businsesses would suddenly take much better care of their
online reputations. Online auctions do this, every bidder and seller can be
rated by other people. Every comment, is public record on the aution site
and has a direct impact on auction vendors reputation and sales...no matter
if the comments have validity or not. Auction sites also take no
responsibility or liabilty for the customer satisfaction ratings of Auction
users.
