Roxanne, it sounds like you are already running a cannister filter.   I 
would just relocate the diffusor to a point well under the filter return 
outlet so the current from the filter swishes around any bubbles that are 
about to reach the surface.  Don't worry about the rest, CO2 is 
disgustingly cheap, given that it is a greenhouse gas.    If your ADA 
diffuser is like either of mine, you can brush it to clean it (but the disk 
is a bit hard to reach).  Use bleach if the disk is green, use muriatic 
acid if the disk is white.   Be careful in either case.
