I bought some Amano shrimp from my lfs a couple years ago and they don't
seem to do much good at all for hair algae. I paid for some more from a
guy on Aquabid in January and never received them. I've pretty much
given up. I've had great success with ghost shrimp for years. They're
inexpensive, breed well and get the job done. The Amano shrimp are
pretty but my experience with them has been pretty dismal.
