not your regular cloudy water

What kind of diatom filter is it? Does it use a filter bag? I ask because I recently had a very similar problem, and it turned out that there was a small tear in the filter bag of my Vortex XL. This was allowing small amounts of the diatom powder to continually leak back into the water, thus causing it to remain cloudy no matter how much filtering I did.

I eventually stopped filtering and just let it sit for a day or two. That helped a little bit (I assume the powder was settling a bit), but it didn't really clear up until I replaced the filter bag and re-filtered.

OTOH, you say your water is green, and that's not something I would expect from a leaking filter bag.
