Even that is too much work.  Just buy a bag of *frozen* sliced
zucchini, or mixed vegetables that include zukes.  Separate out a
slice or two from the bag as needed and drop them into the tank
frozen. They will float at first, but as they thaw they will quickly
waterlog and sink.
