These are my opinions...
No, Java Fern does not grow like a weed. Many
aquarium plants do grow like weeds, but there are many
which do not. Java Fern, Anubias, and other rosette
and rhizome plants grow slowly, even with very
favorable growing conditions.
I agree with the LFS. You are doing very well if you
can double your Java Fern plant mass in about 6
months. Compare this to hornwort, rotala, duck weed,
etc. which doubles its plant mass in a just a fraction
of 6 months with favorable growing conditions.
