My hygro polysperma and bacopa turn reddish near the top simply as a result of high light intensity. I'm using CO2, so it's not for lack of that. I think it looks good. My ludwigia is a gorgeous wine red as a result of light intensity. Unless what you're seeing is brown slime algae (doubtful) then to me it indicates healthy plants.
