IMO, this deficiency is not likely to be nitrate related.
nitrogen is a mobile nutrient, so if you had a deficiency
you would notice it first in older leaves as nutrients
are diverted for continued growth.  crumpled new leaves
is a classic sign of calcium deficiency (calcium is not mobile and is needed in relatively large amounts for a micronutrient for continued growth), which is especially
common in sword plants - i've had the problem myself and
its easily treated by doing a water change unless your
water is very soft.
