hydra

Hi. I set up a new plant tank last week which is now over-run with hydra.
The little beasties appeared nearly overnight and have covered every
square centimeter of the tank. There are no fish in the tank so this
cannot be due to overfeeding. Can I safely assume that they will starve in
short order or do I need to take action? I'd prefer to use a biological
control method rather than blast the tank with drugs (I'm worried about
killing off my snail population with copper based medications). Any
advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Laurel M.
