Anubias rhizome split

During a long delayed and much needed clean up of my
tank I noticed that the Anubias barteri var. nana in
the tank split into two plants.  It appears the
rhizome has divided.  Both ends appear healthy.

I can't remember ever doing anything that might have
cut the rhizome in two, and the "cuts" appear healthy
and do not look to be recent.  Is it common for
anubias to split?
