For around $25 you can try De-Ionization by going to petco or getting online
to Pet Warehouse (www.petwhse.com) and getting a Tap Water Purifier made by
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. It will not deliver much water per charge if your
water has huge amounts of stuff in it, but you can get an idea whether this
is an alternative you would like to explore further. You will have to re-add
some kind of RO water conditioner for the sake of the fish and plants, but
that is the easy part.
