Re: green water

Laurel asked about curing a green water outbreak.

My method: Turn the lights out altogether and blanket the tank (if it is in
a well lit room) for 4 days. Don't feed the fish, but continue fertilization
(no phosphates) and CO2. Restart the lights at 4 hours per day, increasing
by an hour every other day until you are back up to 10-11 hours a day. You
should see a dramatic increase in plant height as the plants put on growth
to reach for light. Which brings up an interesting question: If the plants
put on such growth at night, would it be "better" to fertilize at the start
of the "night" cycle? This way the fertilizer would be inaccessible to
algaes that need light to operate.
