I recently had the same experience with my Aponogeton.  One day I finally got 
the opportunity to sit and watch.  My "Carniverous" angelfish were ripping 
out little tiny pieces and eating it.  I increased feeding, and the problem 
went away.  Don't discount your discus yet.
