Leroy,

I have experience with both of the filters. I am currently running a Eheim
Pro 2226 and a Fluval 104 and 204. To be absolutely honest with you, I love
the Eheim and if I weren't a poor graduate student, I would have bought
Eheims for my other tanks. However, that said, the Fluval 04 series are a
dramatic improvement from the Fluval 03 series, which I once owned as well.
If you can afford the Eheims, I would go with them instead of the fluval.
The fluvals are new and are not proven. The Eheim Pro's have been around
for years and have an excellent reputation as being a reliable filter. It's
quieter than the Fluvals which is important to me.
