Re: Nitrates/green water/test kits (question)

David,

I do not claim to be an expert in green water problems, but I would
recommend stopping all fertilization for now. If the green water
significantly reduces the amount of light reaching the plants, the plants
will not utilize the available nutrients in the water. Therefore more
nutrients will be available for the algae.

I also would suggest a couple of large water changes to lower the present
amount of nutrients in the water column.

Try adding floating plants to help soak up the nutrients.

I would not start fertilizing until the green water clears which could
take a few weeks.

Hope this helps!

Alex
