BGA - any thoughts?

Out of nowhere I have BGA in my 45 gallon planted tank!  I read that
oxygenated water kills BGA so I removed the sponges from the outflow of
a filter to increase the oxygen.  But I did notice that in the morning
the BGA looked like it was dying (lights had been off), during the day
yesterday I noticed an increase in the BGA.  This morning I noticed it
looked again like the BGA had started to die.  So I'm seeing a
relationship between dark and light regarding BGA.  I really hate to put
erythromycin in the tank.

I have used Maracyn in my 5.5 Gallon Betta tank quite a few months ago
and it did work.

Anyone have any thoughts?
