substrate is alive
Steve Lacy asked why nothing (apparently) lives in the substrate. You'll
probably get a lot of responses to this correcting the false impression
but at the very least your substrate is teaming with bacteria of all
sizes especially after a few weeks of being set up.
Hopefully someone like Roger or Paul can chime in with a lengthy
explanation of the roles of these wondrous little beasties and normally
I'd suggest a little light reading on my website but as you may know,
its not working right now.
