Aponogeton flower stalks

My aponogeton crispus plants seem healthy.  They send up flower stalks which flower and begin to form new seeds.  Then the whole stem turns yellow and dies.  The rest of the plant looks good.  This has happened twice now.  Has anyone experienced this?

I have a substrate of soil with sand on top.  I use flourish and jobes sticks.  All other plants are doing well.  Only basic community fish at this point.
