Jon,

If you're having snail troubles in a planted tank, Tom Barr had suggested
Botia striata as a non plant harassin', snail butt kickin' loach.  Enough
people have shared their experiences with clowns and plants (usually
tolerable damage) that you might want the striata if you're not already
taken with clowns.
