I use one of the plastic ponds from Home Depot above the ground, with no side support. The reason I have the pond is so my dogs will have something to play in. I have only left water in it during the summer and spring, so I am not sure what would happen year-round. Hope that helps, Big D -- Knowledge is the door ... Education is the key.
