Metal Halide/ UV shield

Hey all!
I am getting a custom made (by another fish person) metal halide fixtures for 
my 120G.  It is two 175 watt fixtures- encased in a pvc cover.  These are 
going to be suspended above the tank (like pendant fixtures) .. 
He said he can add a piece of plexi glass to the bottom to make a UV shield 
and my question to you people is that :  Is Plexi glass sufficient?

If not what can be used?
